Presentation

The 1st Course in Photon Counting CT: Current Clinical Impact Future Perspectives is a 2-day, case-based meeting designed for radiologists, cardiothoracic imagers, neuroradiologists, musculoskeletal imagers, residents, and other professionals interested in implementing or expanding photon-counting CT (PCCT) in clinical practice. The course is also intended for referring clinicians who request PCCT examinations in the covered areas (abdominal, neuro, musculoskeletal and cardiothoracic imaging), with a focus on real-world clinical applications of this groundbreaking technology and how it may change patient management across specialties.

Through focused sessions on abdominal, musculoskeletal, neuro, and cardiothoracic imaging, an international faculty will review how PCCT technology is changing routine workflows, optimizing protocols, and enhancing spectral and quantitative imaging. Real-world case discussions will highlight practical tips, common pitfalls, and the added value of PCCT for oncology, vascular disease, coronary artery disease, and structural heart disease, while also exploring future directions and research opportunities.

Learning objectives

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  1. Describe the basic principles of photon-counting CT and how it differs from conventional energy-integrating detector CT.
  2. Design and optimize PCCT protocols for abdominal, neuroradiological, musculoskeletal, and cardiothoracic applications, including workflow considerations.
  3. Interpret spectral and quantitative information from PCCT and understand its clinical value in oncologic and vascular imaging.
  4. Analyze real clinical PCCT cases, recognizing typical patterns, added diagnostic value, and common pitfalls.
  5. Discuss strategies and future perspectives for starting or expanding a PCCT program in their own institution.
